Camp Jeep to Return to 2022 Chicago Auto Show
Who is ready for Camp Jeep? Well, if you’re in the Chicago area, then you’ll know that the 2022 Chicago Auto Show starts this weekend and lasts for about a week. Open to the public to see what’s new from automakers, one thing is for sure. Camp Jeep®, the popular indoor test track designed by the off-road automaker, will be setting up camp (pun intended) at the Chicago Auto Show for the 18th year-in-a-row. Since 2005, Jeepers and fans alike have flocked to Chicago to take test rides in various Jeep vehicles. To date, over 532,000 people have had a chance to experience Camp Jeep, and this year will be another chance to test real off-road 4×4 maneuverability.
“As one of the most anticipated events at the Chicago Auto Show and auto shows around the country, fans have been known to wait hours at Camp Jeep to get inside our Jeep vehicles for a personal experience on the track…And, this year, our Camp Jeep will be bigger and better than ever with over 4,000 more square feet added to its overall footprint, and 10 feet added to its mountain. Consumers will be treated to an ever more exhilarating experience with vehicles, including the all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. Our Ram Truck Territory track, another fan favorite, will give show attendees the opportunity to experience the power and capability of our highly awarded light-duty and heavy-duty trucks, including the 2021 Ram Rebel Limited Night edition and 2021 Ram 2500 Power Wagon 75th Anniversary edition.” – Jason Russ, head of experiential marketing, Stellantis
That small description is just a fraction of what Camp Jeep offers. As mentioned above, the largest piece of the setup is a mountain that is 28-feet tall after the extra ten feet was added this year. With 45 degree approach / departure angles, the mountain is bigger and steeper than ever before. It won’t be the only test of off-road maneuverability – just don’t expect to do the driving yourself. Experienced drivers will be taking the attendees through the various courses in a Jeep vehicle. The total exhibit takes up 28,000 square-feet.
This year, courses include a ground clearance stair climber; maneuverability moguls; an extreme break-over; a Jeep tunnel pass-through; the all-new 28-foot mountain, with 45-degree hill ascent / descent; an off-camber; and a 30-degree banked wedge. Most of those things may not even register for the average consumer. Thankfully, Stellantis Media has supplied a look at Camp Jeep from previous years (Chicago Auto Show 2017). Can you figure out which features are which in the video below?
The following Jeep vehicles will be at the exhibit for Camp Jeep ride-alongs, including the Wrangler Rubicon, Wrangler 4xe, Wrangler 392, Gladiator Rubicon, Gladiator Mojave, Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee Overland and Summit Reserve, Cherokee Trailhawk, and Compass Trailhawk. Also at Camp Jeep, attendees will get a chance to check out the power and capability of Ram pickup trucks. A Ram Truck Territory test track will also be on site during the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, where people can get free rides in Ram’s 1500 light-duty and 2500/3500 heavy-duty trucks. The track includes a 3-foot high, 30-foot long course element with 30-degree approach and departure angles. The pickup trucks on the track include the 1500 Laramie, 1500 Limited, 1500 Rebel, 2500 75th Anniversary Power Wagon, 2500 Limited, and 3500 Limited 6.7L Cummins High-Output.
