2023 Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 will always be known as one of the most popular pickup trucks out there. A light duty full-size truck, the automaker is playing with the idea of introducing a midsize pickup, but that will have to step aside for the 1500 REV all-electric pickup truck. When released for the new generation, the Ram 1500 became more of a lifestyle truck, and Mopar showed what consumers could do with the right aftermarket performance parts. Entering 2023 and 2024 with new tech and new models, the Ram 1500 still shines bright. Check out the specs for the 2023 Ram 1500 below.

Engine Types

For 2023, the Ram 1500 is made up of eight trims – Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited, TRX. The standard engine under the hood for all trims up to the Limited Longhorn is a 3.6-liter V6, optimized with eTorque for that extra boost of power, and engine stop/start technology for conserving fuel when idle. This engine is able to generate 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

A 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine, optimized with eTorque and a multi-displacement system to conserve fuel economy when cruising, plus engine stop/start technology, is available for the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, and Limited Longhorn trims. This engine is able to generate 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. A 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine without eTorque, optimized with MDS and variable valve timing technology, is standard for the Limited trim. The 1500 TRX of course comes with the 6.2-liter Supercharged HEMI® V8 SRT® engine under the hood, with an output of 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

Engineering and Configurations

Ram Truck is known for offering a number of configurations for their pickup trucks, such as the drivetrain (4×2 or 4×4), the cab size, and the length of the truck bed (box). Most of the trims, aside from the TRX, can opt-in for 4×2 or 4×4 as the drivetrain – the TRX is locked into 4×4. Several trims are also locked into a set configuration. The Tradesman HFE is only available with 4×2, a quad cab, and a 6’4” box. The Rebel and TRX can only come with a crew cab and a 5’7” box.

If picking another trim, the Tradesman and Big Horn can come with a crew cab with a 5’7” box or a 6’4” box, or a quad cab with a 6’4” box. The Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited trims offer only the crew cab options. Regardless, all trims come with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Thanks for the MDS system in the trims with a V8, the fuel economy is 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway for all trims up to the Limited Longhorn. The Limited trim has a fuel economy of 18/23 mpg city/highway; the TRX offers a fuel economy of 10 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway.

The payload and towing capacity vary greatly, ranging from 1240 – 2330 pounds for the payload, and 6340 – 8110 pounds for the towing capacity. This of course depends on how well equipped each trim is, given the different configurations and features consumers opt-in for.
