2023 Easter Jeep Safari Concept – Grand Wagoneer Overland
The 2023 Easter Jeep Safari recently ended, and Jeepers are still talking about all the fun had and the new gear they bought. During the event, Mopar also showed up with a number of interesting concepts. Ever since the addition of the Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) catalog from Mopar, the customization of a Jeep keeps getting more and more adventurous. To give consumers a sense of what they can do with their Jeep, Mopar brings decked-out Jeep concepts to the Safari every year. We covered four of them last week, but these next three are fully loaded. We’ll cover a new one every week for the remainder of April 2023.
Grand Wagoneer Overland Concept
Built off of the Grand Wagoneer, obviously, this concept can still make great use of the JPP catalog. Taking premium SUVs into uncharted territories and off-road trekking, comfort and capability meet in the middle. Powered by the all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane Twin Turbo 510 engine, the output of 510 horsepower is met with 500 lb-ft of torque. Premium performance and improved fuel economy, that kind of torque offers drivers plenty of control for various terrain and driving conditions. Add the concept’s 35-inch tires wrapped around custom 18-inch wheels, and that’s a natural 1.5-inch lift without a lift kit for a little more ground clearance.
All this off-roading calls for a massive Warn winch (added to the front grille) with two sets of custom laser lights for increasing driver visibility come nightfall. As opposed to the Skyloft, a durable, black Rhino-lined roof is also available, paying homage to the countless amounts of outdoor gear used for those that love the outdoors. An Industrial Green paintjob with Gunmetal accents completes the look.
The interior is where this concept shines the most, starting with the custom RedTail Overland Skyloft installed into the roof. Able to unfold in ten seconds by just pushing it up from within the cabin, this new sunroof was cause for some extreme changes. The second- and third-row seats were removed, the rear-most sunroof was rearranged to create a custom weatherproof, pass-thru entrance from the third-row seating area to the Skyloft, offering another option for storage while still acting as a sunroof. The truck bed-lined cargo floor is made to handle any outdoor element regardless.
Made for camping, the Skyloft also provides a climate-controlled sleeping space for two people with windows for viewing the landscape, and a fore/aft sliding door and small step that double as a usable table. Taking things up a level to glamping, the cozy interior also features oversized beanbags, a plush throw rug, pillows and custom, and ambient interior lighting. It’s more like a rear seat entertainment center with comfort amenities.
Known as the premium entry for Jeep, Wagoneer exists as its own brand and nameplate. That’s why this concept was more focused on the cabin and giving consumers a sense of a lounge on wheels versus an off-road warrior. Sure, the Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer can tackle various driving conditions, but these models are made for drivers looking for a comfortable ride that they can drive to work as well as the woods.
