It was just a rumor…they thought it couldn’t be done. Well, Jurassic Park – uh, the Ram 1500 TRX is real! Called the “apex predator” of pickup trucks, it’s surprising the Ram TRX hasn’t popped up in one of those films by now. Launched in 2020 for the 2021 model year, the Launch Edition sold out in a day, and the popularity continues for the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX.

Configuration
A single model, a single trim, the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX is only available with a 4×4 drivetrain with a Crew Cab. The truck bed is also limited to the Crew Cab with a 5’7” box. When it comes to driving, real customization happens, with five dynamic modes available – Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow and Custom for tinkering with the vehicle’s performance for the four-wheel-drive system, throttle response, transmission, paddle shifters, suspension, and the electric power steering.
Engineering
A 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine lies under the hood, handled through a high-torque-capacity TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. It adds up to 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and run a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. This pickup truck is fast. Able to tackle going off-road and other adventures, the TRX offers a new BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case with a low range of 2.64:1 for rock crawling, flat-towing, and a large ground clearance of 11.8 inches.

Eight inches wider than the usual 1500 model, composite flares and fender wells that add six inches to the track width. Up front, a Ram TRX comes with a hood scoop helps with 50-percent of the air input for the engine. Standard features include a new, aluminum hood with bright LED clearance lights built into the scoop; a unique front grille; all-black premium LED headlamps with twin bi-functional projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, hood, skid plates, steel bumpers; integrated 5-inch dual exhaust ports; and new RAM badges. The TRX can be seen riding on 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory 325/65/R18 All-Terrain tires, also standard, with 18-inch beadlock-ready wheels available.
Interior Features
Inside, consumers get plenty of options starting with the upholstery – (1) premium cloth and vinyl, (2) premium wrapped leather and suede, or (3) premium wrapped leather and suede with red and carbon fiber accents available. Premium textures, colors and material, and hand-wrapped leather instrument panels, the new SRT-signature flat-bottom steering wheel comes with enhanced hand grips wrapped in leather and integrated aluminum paddle shifters. The new Drive Mode selector is in close reach so drivers can change up the settings or style of driving whenever they wish. Don’t forget the available TR1 and TR2 Equipment Group, able to further enhance the interior with heated and ventilated premium Natura Plus leather with perforated suede accents and front bucket and rear bench seats. The TR2 also offers a head-up Display, 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

The standard setup is a Uconnect 4C NAV 12-inch fully configurable touchscreen comes standard with SiriusXM with 360L, Personalized Stations Powered by Pandora, and smartphone integration. A class-exclusive 900-watt premium Harman Kardon audio system with 19 speakers and 10-inch subwoofer also comes standard, so that’s a huge plus. Being the Ram 1500 TRX, this model also comes with a Performance Pages app and an Off-Road Pages app. Each app presents its own set of information, Performance Pages covering timers (such as 0-60 mph elapsed time), g-force, gauges and engine performance; and Off-Road Pages showing ride height, the transfer case’s position, the pitch and roll of the vehicle, and accessory gauges.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2022 Ram TRX comes with all the same standard safety features as the 1500 model it’s based on, including basic standard safety features, such as advanced multistage front airbags, supplemental front-mounted and side-curtain airbags, traction and stability control systems, and trailer safety. Blind-spot Monitoring, adaptive cruise control, Ready Alert Braking and Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus are available add-ons.
All Ram trucks are covered by a basic 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, a 5-year/100,000-mile diesel powertrain warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile gas powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through warranty for 5 years and unlimited miles. Coverage also includes free towing to the nearest Ram Truck dealer, if necessary, and coverage is transferable.
