2021 Ram Rebel TRX to Debut August 17 2020
It’s almost here. The long-awaited Ram 1500 pickup truck we’re all been waiting for is almost here, after years of teasing truck fans across the auto industry, the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX is right around the corner. With production to start soon, that can only mean one thing. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Ram Trucks finally worked out all the kinks for the Rebel TRX design and are ready to show the world what a Hellcat-powered pickup truck looks like.
You read that right. “Hellcat”-powered pickup truck. It’s the same Hellcat engine Dodge and SRT are known for putting into muscle cars. Able to generate 707 horsepower, this pickup truck does a lot more than hauling around lumber and equipment – this truck hauls…the other thing. Of course, the SRT Hellcat engine won’t be the only powertrain option on the Rebel TRX, although it may be the most sought after. For those who just want access to all the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX has to offer, the standard powertrain comes with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine under the hood. Nicknamed the “Banshee” to match the beastly name of the Hellcat engine, the Banshee is capable of generating up to 520 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque.
Little-by-little, Ram has teased out any bit of information they can share with the public about this long-awaited concept. Previewed in 2016, it took a few years for the project to become official in 2019. Once 2020 rolled around, we were all waiting the Ram Rebel TRX to show up at the 2020 Detroit Auto Show, but once the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S., all kinds of auto shows, conventions, and public gatherings were shut down quickly, along with automotive manufacturing plants in the industry. The most we got during that time was a leaked video of the Rebel TRX and a tiny bit of information.
It may sound crazy, but even with a Hellcat-powered engine under the hood, the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX is made to go off-road. Equipped with Ram’s 4×4 Performance Control System, a BorgWarner 44-45 transfer case, and four different driving modes, this pickup truck is still made to handle a variety of road conditions and driving situations, whether asphalt, dirt, or mud. To help with that, a 40-percent suspension increase has been added to the design for that extra bit of clearance when travelling the unbeaten path.
Initially, a report from MoparInsiders led many to believe that we would have to wait until FCA’s annual “What’s New” preview event. This event, restricted to media outlets, gives journalists and members of the press to see all of the new products coming up from FCA. With a date for that event to be announced, we almost lost hope, but now?
Well, now it sounds almost too good to be true, but fans won’t have to wait any longer. Straight from the automaker themselves, Ram has announced that it’s going to officially unveil the all-new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX on Monday, August 17 at noon (12 pm) Eastern Standard Time (that’s 9 a.m. for those on the west coast of the U.S. – you definitely don’t want to miss this).
