With only four trims – Tradesman, SLT, Laramie, and Limited – the standard engine across the lineup is a 6.4-liter V8 Heavy-Duty HEMI engine. Able to generate a best-in-class (3500 models) 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, it’s a great start for a commercial vehicle, and even more impressive capability. Available on all trims is an even greater 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine, able to generate a best-in-class (4500/5500 models) 360 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque.
Both the Tradesman and SLT can come with a regular cab and 60-inch CA or an 84-inch CA, or a crew cab with a 60-inch CA. The Laramie and Limited can only come with a crew cab and a 60-inch CA. All trims can come with 4×2 or 4×4 drive.
With an 8-speed automatic transmission standard, with a six-speed transmission available on all trims, the towing capacity and payload are large numbers for chassis cabs. Properly equipped, a 2021 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab powered by a 6.5-liter HEMI V8 engine has a trailering capacity of 21,540 pounds and a max GCWR of 28,500 pounds. If powered by the 6.7-liter Cummins engine, the max trailering capacity is 35,220 pounds, with a max GCWR of 43,000 pounds.
With only four trims, many features are kept standard for the SLT and upwards, available on the Tradesman. This includes heated exterior mirrors with supplemental turn signals, and trailer tow mirrors. Automatic high beams, LED taillamps, rain-sensitive windshield wipers are available on all trims (standard on Limited). Acoustic glass is on the front and windshield glass, and a power sliding rear window comes on the Laramie and Limited trims. 18-inch trims are the lineup standard, with 17-inch wheels available on all trims.
Even though the 2021 Ram 3500 Chassis Cabs are mostly for commercial jobs, there is no problem with a little luxury, On the SLT trim, leather upholstery is available, standard on the Laramie and Limited trucks. Cloth upholstery is the standard trimming for the lineup. A 40/20/40 split bench is on the Tradesman and SLT trims, whereas the Laramie and Limited trims come with the classic 60/40 split fold bench seats.
An 8-way adjustable driver’s seat is available on the SLT, standard on the Laramie and Limited; and the same pattern for an 8-way adjustable passenger seat, bucket seats, and heated front seats. Heated second-row seats and ventilated front seats are available on the Laramie, standard on the Limited. Select trims come with a leather-wrapped and/or heated steering wheel.
The 2021 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab Tradesman comes with Uconnect 3.0 with a 5-inch touchscreen display available, Uconnect 3 on the 5-inch touchscreen is standard on the SLT, and Uconnect 4 on an 8.4-inch display available on both. Uconnect 8.4 on an 8.4-inch display is standard on the Laramie, with 4C NAV available on the Laramie, and Uconnect 4C Nav on the 12-inch display is available on Laramie, standard on Limited. Integrated voice command with Bluetooth is available on the Tradesman, standard on the rest of the lineup.
Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available on the Tradesman and SLT, standard on the Laramie and the Limited. The Laramie can add on a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot or HD Radio, and these features come standard on the HD Radio. The SLT trim comes with a 6-speaker system, with premium speakers available. A nine Alpine speaker system comes standard with a subwoofer on the Laramie and Limited trims, with a 17-speaker high performance audio system available.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2021 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab comes with select advanced safety features. Adaptive cruise control with stop, full-speed forward-collision warning plus, Lane Keep Assist, and a surround-view camera are available on all trims. A ParkSense rear park assist system is available on the Tradesman, SLT, and Laramie; these trims can also add on front park assist and a ParkView rear back-up camera, standard on the Limited trim. The Tradesman and SLT come with only a Driver’s airbag, but the Laramie and Limited come with front airbags for the driver and passenger.
All-new Ram trucks are covered by a basic 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, a 5-year/100,000-mile diesel powertrain warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile gas powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through warranty for 5 years and unlimited miles. Coverage also includes free towing to the nearest Ram Truck dealer, if necessary, and coverage is transferable.
