2020 Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 really kicked the truck market in the pants when the new generation of the light-duty pickup truck debuted. A truck with hybrid capabilities? If consumers thought diesel engines were powerful, the mild-hybrid system eTorque changed that. Moving on to the 2020 model year, the Ram 1500 is better than ever.

Configurations and Engine Types
As with most trucks, the 2020 Ram 1500 offers consumers a variety of choices to choose from. There are two drivetrains (4×2 and 4×4), four engines, and two truck bed sizes. Depending on the configuration chosen, different trims become available. The full scope of trims includes the Tradesman (base), Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited.
The powertrain choices haven’t changed much. Most trims if not all come standard with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, able to generate 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque and equipped with eTorque for a boost of torque at 0 RPMs. The second engine choice is the legendary 5.7-liter V8 HEMI that delivers 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, able to come with a multi-displacement system (MDS)that shuts off half of the eight cylinders in a V8 during cruising speeds to conserve fuel or come with an MDS and eTorque. Added for 2020 is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine, able to generate 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.
Engineering and Towing Capacity
When it comes to transmission, all trims are paired with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission with a rotary shifter instead of the usual gear shift. Payload and towing capacity vary depending on the configuration of the 2020 Ram 1500, but if configured correctly, most consumers will be able to tow up to 12,750 pounds and carry a payload of 2,100 pounds. The latter is a small drop from the 2019 Ram 1500, the towing capacity has stayed the same, especially with a boost from eTorque.
When it comes to the exterior, there won’t be too many changes. The 2020 model keeps the improved aerodynamics with sharp body lines and a forward-leaning front grille opening as well as the new grille designs. Standard across the lineup are automatic headlamps and heated exterior mirrors. More features have been added as options on other trims, such as wheel-to-wheel side-steps for easier entry, exterior mirrors with memory, bi-functional LED projector headlamps, and pickup box lighting. The option to add a deployable bed step to get into the truck bed easier is available across the lineup. This truck rides on 18-, 20, or 22-inch wheels that come in various available designs.
A lot of features from the 2019 model have carried over, such as a 33.3-inch by 43.4-inch panoramic sunroof as an available option and the famous RamBox Cargo Management System, but both are only options on some trims for the 2020 model year. Standard across the lineup is a 40/20/40 split bench seat, second-row in-floor storage bins, acoustic front door glass, rear seat heat ducts, and tinted glass windows. Depending on the trim and configuration, consumers can find more options available, such as bucket seats, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a rear 60/40 folding seat, ventilated front seats and/or ventilated rear seats, a/c dual-zone control, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and more.
When the 2019 Ram 1500 debuted with the available 12-inch touchscreen, a class-exclusive, truck lovers flocked to the new light-duty pickup truck. A truck with such high-tech feels like a rare gem, especially when we consider that the standard setup is Uconnect 3 with a 5-inch display, nothing too fancy. Integrated voice command with Bluetooth is a lineup standard. Every option past the Tradesman (base) can opt-in for Uconnect 4 on an 8.4-inch display, Uconnect 4C with navigation capabilities on an 8.4-inch display, or Uconnect with navigation on a 12.0-inch touchscreen. Those that opt-in for the 4C will also get SiriusXM with 360L.

Available and advanced safety features include blind-spot and cross-path detection, full-speed forward-collision warning plus, Lane Keep Assist, ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist, ParkSense park assist with reverse stop, and a surround-view camera.
