2020 Dodge Durango
Dodge has been releasing data and specs for all of the models in its lineup for the 2020 model year, and the first model to be released is none other than an SUV Dodge is known for – the 2020 Dodge Durango. Finding a balance between performance, capability, and comfort, 2020 returns with more to offer than previous generations. Just when we thought the reduced lineup was a sign of dark times, it seems Dodge was just warming up for the 2020 model year. The 2020 Dodge Durango comes back with a little bite.
Engine Types and Trims
For 2020, the Dodge Durango lineup has increased back to its original size. There are a total of eight trims – seven of which come standard with rear-wheel drive (RWD) but can opt-in for all-wheel drive (AWD). They are SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, Citadel, R/T, Citadel Anodized Platinum, and SRT (AWD only). On either drivetrain, the SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, and Citadel are all powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine upgraded with variable valve timing and electronic stop-start technology to conserve fuel. It is capable of generating 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
On either drivetrain, the 2020 Dodge Durango R/T trim is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine optimized with a multi-displacement system and variable valve timing for improved performance and fuel efficiency. It can generate 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. This engine is optional on the Citadel trim on either drivetrain; it is also optional on the Citadel Anodized Platinum with RWD (V6 engine standard) but comes standard if the consumer chooses this trim with AWD. The 2020 Dodge Durango SRT trim only comes with AWD and 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine under the hood, capable of generating 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
Regardless of trim or drivetrain, the 2020 Dodge Durango comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. On either drivetrain, the SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, and Citadel have the engine paired to model 850RE. The 2020 Dodge Durango R/T has the engine paired to the 8HP70 model, optional on the Citadel and Citadel Anodized Platinum, where the latter gets it standard with AWD. The 2020 Dodge Durango SRT also comes with the 8HP70 model standard.
If powered by the V6 engine on RWD, the 2020 Dodge Durango can get a fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway†. If powered by the V6 engine on AWD, that number drops to 18/25 mpg city/highway. The 2020 Dodge Durango R/T gets 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway with either drivetrain. The 2020 Dodge Durango SRT has a fuel economy of 13 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
For 2020, many standard features across the lineup return, including automatic headlamps, LED tail lamps, an acoustic windshield, and heated exterior mirrors. Side mirrors with memory and supplemental signals are also standard n the GT Plus, Citadel, R/T, Citadel Anodized Platinum, and SRT. On select trims, consumers can find exterior mirrors with memory and turn signals, a power liftgate, black roof rails, and integrated roof rail crossbars on select trims. For a little more personalization, consumers may have up to ten colors – Redline 2, F8 Green, Destroyer Grey, Billet, Vice White, Granite, Octane Red, White Knuckle, Reactor Blue, DS Black. There are also multiple different kinds of wheel designs, and they come in either 18-inch or 20-inches.
In 2020, the Dodge Durango comes with a second row and trims have either a second-row 60/40 split-folding seat or a second-row 60/50 split-fold and tumble seat for easy entry and exit. Standard, the Durango seats six but by adding a third-row seating group, another seat is added to the third row. On the 2020 Dodge Durango GT Plus, Citadel, R/T, Citadel Anodized Platinum, and SRT trims come with heated front and second-row seats. Ventilated front seats are standard on the Citadel Anodized Platinum and SRT trims, optional on the R/T. A heated steering wheel comes standard on the GT Plus, Citadel, R/T, Citadel Anodized Platinum, and SRT trims. Select trims can come with a sunroof.
New for 2020
For 2020, the R/T trim features a chrome HEMI front fender badge; if the consumer chooses one of the available Blacktop or Brass Monkey Appearance Packages, the badge comes in Matte Black badge. A new group has also been made available, the Premium Interior Group, that adds Dinamica suede-wrapped headliner and hand-wrapped instrument panel with live accent stitching. A 20-inch wheel design is made available in a Gloss Black finish if consumers get the Blacktop package.
In 2020, a 7-inch touchscreen display with next-generation Uconnect 4 and a 6-speaker sound system is still the standard setup. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, integrated voice command with Bluetooth, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls are also a lineup standard. Uconnect 4C with NAV on an 8.4-inch display and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are optional on the GT and GT Plus, standard on the rest of the high-end trims. A nine Alpine amplified speaker system with a subwoofer comes standard on the Citadel, R/T, Citadel Anodized Platinum, and SRT, optional on the GT Plus. Two rear entertainment centers and a Blu-Ray DVD player is optional on all high-end trims starting with the GT Plus.
Safety Features and Warranty
The safety features and warranty for the 2020 Dodge Durango stay the same. Throughout the lineup, consumers will find an advanced multistage front airbags; supplemental front-seat mounted and side-curtain airbags in all rows; stability and traction control systems; remote proximity keyless entry; a ParkView rear backup camera; a Sentry Key theft deterrent system; an enhanced accident response system; and a LATCH ready child seat restraint system. On select trims past the base SXT trim, consumers may find advanced and automatic safety features, such as a remote start system, an additional security alarm, a blind spot and cross path detection system, full-speed forward collision warning plus, lane departure warning plus, and ParkSense rear park assist with stop or ParkSense front and rear park assist with stop.
