Aventura CJDR 2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman Debut

Ram has sure been busy with the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, haven’t they? Ever since the new Ram light duty pickup truck debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, there has been a little more news every week. Following the debut of the redesigned next generation model, we soon learned about the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn trim, then the 2019 Ram 1500 Lone Star, which is essentially the Texas-only version of the Ram 1500 Big Horn, and then we got to learn all about the engineering that goes into making the 2019 Ram 1500 so special. The most recent news is the reveal of the 2019 Ram Tradesman, the classic base trim. Before we get to that, let’s recap some of this in more detail.

The 2019 Ram 1500 So Far

In general, the 2019 Ram 1500 is 225 pounds lighter than previous Ram 1500 models, and it has the strongest frame of any Ram model. Constructed from a high-strength steel-aluminum blend that makes up 98 percent of the total body, the new Ram 1500 truck is a durable and capable light duty pickup truck. The 1500 is available with two powertrain options. One option is a 305-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that generates 269 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6L engine also comes standard with the eTorque system, and it provides an additional 90 lb-ft of torque to its original output. The second option is the 395-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine that can generate 410 lb-ft of torque, and the new eTorque system is an option on the 5.7L engine. Later into the model year, the all-new Ram 1500 may even be available with FCA’s new “Global Medium Engine,” said to be “future-proof.”

The 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn gives truck drivers a taste of the old Western lifestyle. The Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn offers passengers a luxurious interior with premium materials, such as wood, metal, and leather are featured throughout, along with traditionally handcrafted, time-tested wares, such as an antique pocket watch and hand-tooled leather cowboy boots. The 2019 Ram Lone Star/Big Horn is a real work truck, mostly standing out due to its assortment of packages. Consumers can personalize their 2019 Ram 1500 with function-specific enhancements, such as a Bed Utility Group, a 4×4 Off-road Group, a Protection Group, Trailer Tow Mirrors and Brake Group, Max Towing Package, and Premium Lighting Group.

Mopar made personalizing Ram trucks even better with their new catalog. During a webcast at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show, Mopar and Ram showed off a decked out 2019 Ram 1500 with Mopar products found in their new catalog, filled with over 200 new parts. Now, Ram trucks can be personalized for work, play, and especially adventure with its new off-road package that adds a one-inch suspension lift, with or without the available four-corner air suspension, an electronic-locking rear differential, and 32-inch on/off-road tires on the standard 18-inch or the available 20-inch wheels to provide additional grip. The transfer cases have also been upgraded with BorgWarner 48-12 for part-time 4WD operation with Hi and Low ranges and the BorgWarner 48-11 for on-demand 4WD.

2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman

Being the base trim, the Ram 1500 Tradesman has never been a must-have for hardcore pickup truck drivers, but this year, that changes. Available in two cab styles and two bed lengths (quad cab with 6’4” bed, a crew cab with a 5’7” short bed, or a crew cab with an optional 6’4” bed), the 1500 Tradesman comes standard with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with eTorque mild hybrid system and a 4×2 drivetrain. Buyers can opt for the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine or 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with eTorque, and a 4×4 drivetrain if they wish.

Other standard features popping up on the 2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman are the segment-exclusive multi-link rear coil suspension that provides best-in-class ride and handling qualities, a coil-spring setup centralizes and absorbs bumps and impacts while reducing the amount of friction in the spring system. Ram’s exclusive four corner air suspension system is also available. For technology and entertainment, the Tradesman does still get the short-end of the stick, with standard interior features including Uconnect 5.0 with five-inch screen and hands-free calling. Hey, can’t have it all.
