2019 Jeep Renegade
Known as the off-road vehicle to trust, the Jeep® Renegade has the best-in-class off-road capability out of the Jeep lineup, and offers the most adventure one can get out of a 4×4 drivetrain. In addition, the Renegade was and still is an icon of Jeep vehicles, and found ways to provide comfort as well as capability. And remember, for those who just can’t get enough of all that off-road action, the Jeep Renegade is one of the models that come with a Jeep Trailhawk trim.
Avail. Engine Type
Crossing over from the 2018 model year, the 2019 Jeep Renegade comes with four trims. Three of these – the Sport, Latitude, and Limited – come standard with a 2×4 drivetrain. For consumers that opt-in for a 4×4 drivetrain, the 2019 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk trim becomes available. The standard drivetrain on the Sport and Latitude trims is a 2.4-liter Tigershark engine, capable of generating 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. With a towing capacity of 2000 pounds, the last measured fuel economy of Jeep Renegade vehicles equipped with this engine have a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Another engine option, available on the Sport and Latitude trims but standard on the Limited and Trailhawk trims is an all-new 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, able to generate 177 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. Paired to a segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission, this combination proves to be beneficial on both, on-road and off-road driving dynamics. Fuel economy and towing capacity measurements have yet to be released, but this engine option does come with engine stop-start (ESS) technology and active grille shutters (not found on Trailhawk model) to improve fuel efficiency.
Engineering and 4×4
Several enhancements have been added to the 2019 Jeep Renegade to continue to improve its performance, and not just fuel efficiency. Along with the new engine, transmission, and active grille shutters, a segment-exclusive disconnecting rear axle and power take-off unit (PTU) were also added to Jeep Renegade 4×4 models to optimize fuel efficiency. Speaking of, there are two 4×4 systems available on the 2019 Jeep Renegade. The first, Active Drive 4×4, is a part-time 4×4 system that only engages when driving conditions or the driver request it, and can be found on the Renegade Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims.
The 2019 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk comes with another 4×4 system, Active Drive Low, also a part-time 4×4 system. Known for its low-range capability for low-speed traction, rock crawling with this vehicle is second-to-none, especially when it comes to its 21:1 crawl ratio, 8.7-inches of ground clearance, and up to 19 inches of water fording. Both 4×4 systems come with the Jeep Selec-Terrain system, providing consumers with up to five driving modes for the best four-wheel-drive performance on or off road and in any weather condition.
Oh, there haven’t only been changes made to the powertrain for 2019. A refreshed exterior design includes new front fascias and grille surround, new aluminum wheel designs, and a new wheel option on Latitude and Limited trims – 19-inch aluminum Granite Crystal. The 2019 model year also comes with an LED Lighting Group that adds LED headlamps, daytime running lamps (DRL), cornering fog lamps, and tail lamps.
We can assume most 2018 features return, such as the available automatic headlamps, halogen headlamps with turn-off time delay, deep tint sunscreen glass, and heated exterior mirrors. Other wheel sizes consist of 16-, 17-, or 18-inch wheels in various styles. The MySky open-air roof panel system is available in 2019 for select trims. For some exterior style, new Bikini, Slate Blue and Sting Grey exterior paint colors have been added (late availability), along with the usual Colorado Red Clear, Omaha Orange Clear, Granite Crystal Clear, Jetset Blue Metallic, Glacier Metallic, Black Clear, and Alpine White Clear.
The interior doesn’t see as many changes as the exterior so far, only with new instrument cluster graphics – woo? Interior upholstery still consists of cloth or fabric as the standard, with leather as an available option on other trims. Select trims come with a heated steering wheel, automatic temperature control, and steering wheel mounted audio controls.
Found on many Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) vehicles, all trims come with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, but only some have a 40/20/40 rear seat with trunk pass-through. Six colors with accents have also been made available for 2019. These include Black Sandstorm with Metal Diamond accents, Trespass Black with Metal Diamond accents, Black leather with Grillz accents, Polar Plunge with Metal Diamond accents, Polar Plunge leather with Grillz accents, and Trailhawk Black with Ruby Red accents.
For 2019, the Jeep Renegade offers advanced technology to various trims. The new infotainment system, Uconnect 4, is displayed on an 8.4-inch touchscreen and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, GPS navigation, HD Radio, Bluetooth handsfree calling, voice command, audio streaming, and SiriusXM Radio. Uconnect 4 on a 7-inch touchscreen is the standard, with the former setup as an option. Also available on select trims is a BeatsAudio premium sound system that includes eight speakers and a subwoofer for studio-quality sound.
