2019 Dodge Journey
When not sure if looking for a new SUV or a crossover, consumers can always find some company with Dodge. Bringing cargo space and versatility together with fuel efficiency and comfort, the Dodge Journey is an SUV that can still offer the convenience of a crossover. Popular, affordable, and with plenty of available options for technology, the Dodge Journey is a great choice when going big in 2019.
Avail. Engine Type
Avail. Highway Fuel Eco
Like other vehicles in the Dodge lineup, the Dodge Journey SUV has simplified the lineup down to three trims – SE, Crossroad, and GT. With front-wheel drive as the standard powertrain, consumers will find a 2.4-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine optimized with variable valve timing (VVT) under the hood of the Dodge Journey SE and Crossroad trims. Able to generate 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque, it’s a good starting point for the lineup. If looking for more power, the 2019 Dodge Journey GT comes standard with the 3.6-liter V6 engine, also optimized with VVT, and able to generate 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. If consumer opt-in for the all-wheel drivetrain (AWD), then the V6 is standard on all three trims.
Driving and Handling
Just like the engine options with the drivetrain, depending on whether consumers choose FWD or AWD can change their choices for the transmission. If driving on FWD, the 2019 Dodge Journey SE and Crossroad trims come with a 4-speed automatic transmission, offering a fuel economy of 19/25 mpg city/highway. With FWD, the Dodge Journey GT is tied to a 6-speed automatic transmission and offers a fuel economy of 17/25 mpg city/highway. If the consumer picks AWD, all trims come with the 6-speed automatic and a fuel economy of 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
An SUV that hasn’t changed much over the years, the style of the 2019 Dodge Journey is true to previous model years. Offering standard features like automatic headlamps, heated exterior mirrors, a rear window defroster and wiper, and a removable short mast antenna, some aesthetic changes may appear to separate the trims with black headlamps or tail lamps, black exterior mirrors versus body color, dual bright exhaust tips, and badges and decals. For those that plan to live up to the “Journey” name, consumers will find convenient features like splash guards and door sill guards by Mopar and black side roof rails for exterior cargo storage. 17- or 19-inch wheels, available in various styles, are the options for 2019 Dodge Journey trims.
Inside the SUV, a lot of the features that made the Journey a great choice return. There’s plenty of standard features, from a second-row 40/40 tilt and slide seat and a third row 50/50 folding seat to dual zone temperature control, sunscreen glass, and driver and second-row in-floor storage bins. Front and rear floor mats also come standard for any muddy trips the Journey might take. Upscale features, such as leather upholstery, a 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, triple-zone automatic temperature control, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats can be found available on the Crossroad and GT trims.
With the limited lineup, the 2019 Dodge Journey keeps the 4.3-inch touchscreen display as the standard for the SE trim, but consumers can upgrade to Uconnect 3 on an 8.4-inch touchscreen and Uconnect voice command with Bluetooth. The 2019 Dodge Journey Crossroad and GT come standard with Uconnect 3 on an 8.4-inch touchscreen. All trims come with steering wheel-mounted audio controls. This year, a 6-speaker system is the standard setup, but the GT comes with a six premium speaker system with a subwoofer.
Safety Features and Warranty
Consumers will find many great safety features on the 2019 Dodge Journey, including multi-stage airbag system, stability, and traction control systems, LATCH-ready child seat anchor systems, and a Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System. Advanced features like Keyless Go and a ParkView rear backup camera are also standard, but consumers will find a remote start system only on the GT and ParkSense rear park assist only on the SE (optional).
The Dodge Journey is covered by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain, and roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles.
