Avail. Engine Type
Although there are three models for the Ram Chassis Cab, the 3500, 4500, and 5500, much of the options are the same. The specs do vary though and will be covered briefly, but we’ll focus on the Ram Chassis Cab 3500 Tradesman and 3500 SLT trims. Both trims can come with a 4×4 or 4×4 drivetrain. Regardless of which, their configuration options remain the same. The choices are a Regular Cab 10K with a 143.5-inch wheelbase or a Crew Cab 10k with a 172.4-inch wheelbase.
The engine standard for both trims is a commercial-grade 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that can generate up to 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. The larger engine is an option, a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine, able to deliver 385 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque. Keep in mind, these specs are for the 3500 model.
When it comes to the 3500 models of the 2018 Ram Chassis Cab, each trim has a GVWR of 10,000 pounds. That acronym stands for “Gross Vehicle Weight Rating”, a term used to define the operating weight of a vehicle when including the vehicle’s chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers, and cargo. This does not include the weight of any trailer.
Good to know, given that 10,000 pounds is more than half of the 3500 trims max towing capacity, a total of 19,280 pounds when powered by the gas engine. Both 3500 trims can also handle a payload of 4900 pounds. If looking for a stronger model, such as the Chassis Cab 5500, the max diesel towing capacity goes up to 30,600 pounds. When truck buying for a business, definitely keep these numbers in check to make sure the right heavy duty truck is purchased.
When talking about the 2018 Ram Chassis Cab, or any commercial truck for that matter, style really isn’t the driving force behind the purchase or lease. Instead, it’s more so the features available, such as automatic on/off headlamps, tinted glass windows, and tinted windshield glass – all standard. Some of the optional features include fog lamps, black tubular side steps, exterior mirrors with courtesy lamps, and more. The 2018 Ram Chassis Cab SLT also comes with a bright front bumper and heated exterior mirrors with turn signal indicators for a little convenience. Both 2018 Ram Chassis Cab 3500 trims ride on 18-inch steel wheels, with the option of getting 18-inch polished aluminum wheels instead.
As for seating configurations and the interior of the 2018 Ram Chassis Cabs, standard features include a 40/20/40 split-bench seat covered in vinyl, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with display, a rear fixed window, a rear dome lamp. The Chassis Cab SLT trim comes with a few extra options available, such as heated front seats, premium cloth upholstery, a 7-inch multi-view cluster, and cab body insulation, to name a few.
When it comes to a work truck, entertainment features rely on what the buyer wants or needs. The standard features include a two-speaker system (six-speakers on the SLT), an audio jack for mobile devices, and Radio 3.0. Getting a 5-inch touchscreen is an available option for both trims, an 8.4-inch is only available for the SLT, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and HD Radio.
