2018 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500
The Ram 2500 and 3500 are returning for the 2018 model year, and they’re ready to do some heavy duty work. They’re built as durable and as strong as ever and Ram came out with a couple of special edition trims for the Ram pickup truck lineup, including a new luxury trim. With all the options available, a Ram truck fan is bound to find a Ram 2500 or Ram 3500 heavy duty pickup truck this year.

Max Towing Capacity
Depending on the exterior configuration, the available options do vary on the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. Aside from the choice of one of four engines (three on the 3500), there’s also two available drivetrains, two truck bed lengths, and three cab sizes available. In total, the Ram 2500 has eight trims, with the eighth being the Power Wagon; the Ram 3500 has seven trims, no Power Wagon available.
Drivetrain and Cab Sizes
Just like other Ram trucks, there are two drivetrains available – 4×2 and 4×4.. There are three cab sizes for the Ram 2500/3500. There is the regular two-door cab that seats 2-3 people, depending on the front seat configuration. If looking for more room, for passengers or cargo, then the four-door crew and mega cabs may be just what a consumer needs.
Unlike the Ram 1500, the Ram 2500/3500 have only two bed lengths – 6’4” and 8’. The 6’4” truck bed is available on the crew cab and mega cab and the 8’ truck bed is available on the crew cab and the regular cab.
5.7-liter V8 HEMI
The 5.7L V8 HEMI engine can be found on the Ram 2500 and 3500, but the 2500 is available with a variation that isn’t available on the 3500. Available on the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 is 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine with variable valve timing (VVT) technology that optimizes its performance and fuel efficiency. It’s capable of 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, and has a towing capacity of 18,890 pounds for both models. The other variant available on the Ram 2500 is the same engine powered by “Compressed Natural Gas” for a high-pressure fuel delivery system like gasoline direct injection.
6.4-liter Heavy Duty V8 HEMI with MDS
Available on the 2500 and 3500, the 6.4-liter Heavy Duty V8 HEMI is capable of generating 410 horsepower, 429 lb-ft of torque, and has a max towing capacity of 16,320 pounds. Designed with a “multi-displacement system”(MDS), this engine can conserve fuel efficiency while on the road. When riding at steady speeds, the MDS will shut off 4-of-the-8 cylinders in the V8 engine.
6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I6
Made by the popular name in diesel engines, the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine is the strongest in the lineup. Depending on the transmission and model, the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel engine can produce from 650-930 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 2500 has a maximum towing capacity of up to 17,590 pounds. Due to some tweaking that Cummins and Ram did to the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel engine in 2017, the 2018 Ram 3500 is available with best-in-class 930 lb-ft of torque, that gives the truck a max fifth-wheel towing capacity of 30,000 pounds.
On all Ram 2500s, there is a locking tailgate, automatic headlamps, heated exterior mirrors (optional on the Tradesman trim) with the option to add-on mirrors with turn signals and front bumper sight shields. The Ram 3500 has these same features except for the locking tailgate. The Ram 3500 also only has regular exterior mirrors for the Tradesman, no option for heated, turn signals, or memory.
The option to add a RamBox Cargo Management System for carrying smaller items or to organize one’s equipment, and the option to delete the truck bed altogether is available on the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. The option is only available on configurations with a crew cab or mega cab. LED box lighting is an available option for trims on both models for being able to find one’s cargo in poor visibility. Wheel sizes range from 17-20 inches, from aluminum to steel.

Found standard in the Ram 2500 interior is cloth upholstery, a 40/20/40 split bench seat, a rear 60/40 split folding seat, a rear power sliding window, a rear dome lamp, tinted glass windows and a tinted windshield.
