Aside from the cab size and truck bed length, there are many features shared between various trims in a lineup. For instance, a locking tailgate is a standard feature in the lineup; other standards consist of a pickup box, heated exterior mirrors with turn signals, and automatic headlamps. The option to add-on LED bed lighting is available throughout the lineup. Select trims may have other options standard or available, such as automatic high beams, depending on its configuration. For instance, when the truck has a 4×4 drivetrain, crew cab, and 6’4” box, the Laramie has the option to add-on automatic headlamps.
Many aesthetic choices are available on the Ram 3500, from chrome exterior mirrors to removing the pickup box altogether. The various trims may wear their respective badges, all of them being an optional add-on but not a standard feature. Moreover, 17-, 18-, and 20-inch wheels are available in various designs, with all-season or on/off-road tires.
The interior features in the 2017 Ram 3500 heavy duty pickup truck are a plenty, nearly too many to name. Luxury features tend to lean towards the high-end trims, such as leather trimmed seats and console components, available heated front seats and second-row seats, automatic dual zone a/c control, a rear sliding window, and an available sunroof. Some basic features, such as a rear split folding seat, are standard on most trims, whereas a 40/20/40 bench seat comes in various grades throughout the lineup i.e. basic cloth 40/20/40 bench versus a Ram Work Grade 40/20/40 bench.
Features found standard throughout the lineup consist of a rear under seat storage compartment, dash liner insulation, the option to remove the carpet and floor mats, optional rubber floor mats, a storage tray, tinted glass windows, tinted windshield glass, and the the usual instrument cluster and driver information centers. A miniature floor console comes standard on the base trim, the Tradesman, whereas the rest of the lineup gets an overhead console instead. The option to install a full length floor console is however available on all trims but the base. As mentioned, the features and options are nearly endless for the Ram 3500.
All trims on the Ram 3500 lineup, except for the base trim (Tradesman) have a 5-inch touchscreen display, with the option to upgrade to an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Of course, if upgrading from one size to another, the upgrade will also include changing from Uconnect 5.0 to Uconnect 8.4, which opens up the opportunity to further upgrade to Uconnect 8.4 NAV (not available on the SLT trim) and Uconnect Access. The standard sound system is made up of six speakers, but can be upgraded to an Alpine 9-speaker system with a subwoofer on all trims but the base. The audio can be controlled via steering wheel mounted audio controls, found on select trims. Bluetooth with voice command has been integrated into all but the base trim, though is an optional add-on for the Tradesman.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2017 Ram 3500 has all the basic features one would expect from a heavy duty pickup truck, and then some. Found in all trims are advanced multistage front airbags, mounted and side-curtain airbags, traction and stability systems, a variation of remote keyless entry (not on the Tradesman), and a Sentry Key theft deterrent system.
