2017 Jeep Wrangler Specs
The first Jeep to roam the streets, or the great outdoors, was the Jeep Wrangler. Due to the Wrangler’s easy configuration styles, it’s almost like legos for adults. Want to ride topless? You can just remove the hardtop or soft top roof. Want to really feel the breeze? You can also remove the doors! The Jeep Wrangler can easily be rearranged to fit any drivers attitude. Plus, the Wrangler is made for a lot more than just driving down the road. Let’s look at the 2017 Jeep Wrangler.
Standard Engine Type
Avail. Fuel Economy
For the 2017 model year, there is only one engine powering all of the Wrangler trims – the award-winning Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine. It generates 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty to go up steep inclines or tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds. Built with “Variable Valve Timing” (VVT) technology, the engine’s air intake valves have been programmed to improve the vehicle’s overall performance.
The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It’s surprising that manual is still the standard today, and if looking to make use of the Wrangler’s towing power, then switching out for a 5-speed automatic transmission is the better option. With either transmission, the fuel economy for the Wrangler is 17/21 mpg city/highway.
Every Jeep is available with 4×4 systems. For the Jeep Wrangler, there are the Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4×4 systems, and their availability depends on the trim. Aside from the two Wrangler Rubicon models, the Wrangler is equipped with the Command-Trac 4×4 system, designed for enhanced control and handling. Due to its ability to transfer an equal amount of torque to all four wheels, it works best for low-range rock crawling and flat towing.
If looking for more off-road performance, the Wrangler Rubicon or Rubicon Hard Rock has some of the most advanced factory 4×4 equipment. The Wrangler Rubicon and Rubicon Hard Rock are equipped with the Rock-Trac 4×4 system and it was named best-in-class for off-road performance, and for good reason. It’s known primarily for its 4:1 low gear ratio, which allows for rock crawling at lower speeds whilst still increasing torque, and it is a legend in the Jeep off-road community.
As mentioned, drivers can customize their Jeep Wrangler in a number of ways. Depending on the trim, removing the doors and the roof is an option. Across the lineup, deep tint sunscreen windows are standard or an available upgrade (except for the Wrangler Sport). The Wrangler rides on 16-, 17-, or 18-inch wheels with Goodyear brand tires. Some of the available advanced exterior features include automatic headlamps, LED fog lamps, LED reflector headlamps, and power heated exterior mirrors.
Mopar Custom Auto has been known to get in on the development of FCA vehicles including Jeep. Owners can modify factory parts and components with Mopar parts to improve their Jeep’s performance on and off-road. Some of the most popular parts are side steps, a chrome exhaust, and chrome tail lamp guards.
The standard seating material is cloth for most trims, but the Wrangler 75th Anniversary Edition has leather seats with ombre mesh inserts. In terms of convenient features, all Wrangler trims have an easy-access passenger seat that folds and slides forward for back seat passenger entrance. As mentioned, drivers will find luxury features such as heated seats and automatic temperature control on the upper level trims.
The 2017 Jeep Wrangler isn’t without cargo options. It has cargo tie down loops and a rear cargo compartment. Also, drivers can keep an eye on vehicle performance with the premium instrument cluster, located behind the steering wheel.
Uconnect multimedia systems return to the Wrangler lineup and an 8-speaker system is standard on all 2017 Jeep Wrangler trims, except for the Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock. An Alpine premium 9-speaker audio system with a subwoofer (also an optional upgrade for all trims) is installed on the Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock.
Uconnect voice command with Bluetooth is optional or standard across the lineup. Most trims come with steering wheel mounted audio controls and SiriusXM Satellite Radio with a complimentary 1-year subscription.
Safety Features and Warranty
All Jeep Wrangler 2017 models are equipped with many important safety features. This covers systems such as advanced multistage front airbags and side curtain airbags, as well as stability and traction control. For a little security, a Sentry Key theft deterrent system that immobilizes the engine is also standard across the lineup.
Jeep vehicles are protected by a 3-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for 5 years or 100,000 miles
