2017 Dodge Journey Specs
For the 2017 model-year, the 2017 Dodge Journey is one the most affordable crossovers on the market. It’s powerful, can sit 5-7 passengers, and has a starting MSRP under $22,000. The value, vehicle connectivity, and customization make the Dodge Journey stand out among the rest. Plus, it has a large selection of standard and advanced safety features to help keep you and your family safe.
Available Driving Range
67 cubic feet
The award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine returns to the 2017 Dodge Journey, generating 283-horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque under the hood. Oddly enough, it’s not the standard engine, as the base trim (SE) comes with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. Actually, the engine choice depends on the drivetrain chosen, as the Journey has front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive available. The 2.4-liter engine generates 173-horsepower and is the standard engine for AWD.
VVT technology is also built into the 2.4-liter engine, and with an automatic transmission on both engines, the Journey can go quite the distance. With AutoStick 6-speed automatic transmission, either engine on the 2017 Journey can get up to 25 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy isn’t the only thing this CUV is good for, though.
Driving and Handling
Given that two drivetrains are available on the Dodge Journey, it offers folks in the midwest and north a versatile automobile that can withstand various weather conditions. Traction in the front is great, but traction in all four wheels? That’s more than helpful on ice, gravel, and other low-traction surfaces.
The 2017 Dodge Journey is also made for towing, built with trailer sway control and electronic stability control to reduce towing cargo sway and maintain overall vehicle stability. No one wants to be behind a fishtailing or swaying vehicle, and no one wants to be behind the wheel of one either. With the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, the Journey has a towing capacity of 2,500 pounds.
Originally, the Dodge Journey came in five trims, with R/T being on the high-end, but Dodge is starting to switch up gears a bit. Known for their R/T and SRT vehicles, the Challenger GT with AWD is a novelty, and now the Journey R/T is being replaced with the a GT variation too. It makes sense, since “GT” stands for “Grand Touring”, or a car that can make long-distance trips in comfort and style. Very fitting for the 2017 Journey.
Sculpted with distinctive style, the Journey has aggressive lines and that signature Dodge brand “split crosshair” grille. Available features such as “ring of fire” LED tail lamps make it stand out further, and the 19-inch aluminum wheels (standard on the Crossroad, Crossroad Plus, and GT) are a nice touch. Other available features consist of convenient add-ons, such as heated, power-foldaway exterior mirrors and a roof rack for extra cargo space. The 2017 Dodge Journey is available in up to ten colors.
The inside of the Journey is as spacious as it is comfortable. Leather trimming on the seats is just the beginning of the available ways to turn the cockpit into a throne. Heated front seats and heated steering wheel are available features to increase driver comfort, and many components such as door panels and armrests are covered in soft-touch materials. Automatic temperature three-zone control is also available to front and rear passengers, able to select and maintain their ideal comfort levels; dual-zone manual temperature control is a standard feature.
There is plenty of space in the 2017 Dodge Journey, and we’re not just talking about legroom. With the second row 60/40 split-fold seat backs and fold-flat passenger seat, up to 67 cubic-feet can be made available. That’s just by folding a couple seats – there’s also an in-floor cooler for tailgate parties and carpooling the kids to soccer, another separate cargo area built into the floor, and even available in-seat storage. That’s a new one, and a great way to store valuables.
Uconnect 8.4, an available feature for the 2017 Journey, is one of the main highlights this year. The 8.4 touchscreen command center offers navigation, voice-command music selection, and the ability to check local fuel prices for you bargain shoppers. In total, four different Uconnect systems are available throughout the 2017 Dodge Journey lineup, all with their own features and functions.
You can’t forget the sound system, or the available six Infinity speakers with amplifier and subwoofer for your own personal concert hall. There are also a ton of convenient features, such as Keyless enter ‘n go with push-button start, a 3.5-inch customizable driver information digital cluster display, and even an available wi-fi hotspot. More cars need this, and with the 2017 Dodge Journey, you can have it.
Safety Features and Warranty
There are more than 40 available and standard safety and security features in the 2017 Dodge Journey. It has all the basics – multistage airbag systems, stability and traction control systems, LATCH ready child seat anchor systems, and that’s what comes standard. Available advanced features consist of a ParkView rear backup camera and ParkSense rear park assist, staples for the Dodge brand.
The Dodge Journey is covered by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain, and roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles.
