Auto shows are a great time for automakers to show off their newest models and connect with the consumers. This year, we saw a lot of interesting things at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, getting our first look at the new 2023 Dodge Hornet, the first plug-in hybrid Dodge vehicle, and the Ram 1500 Revolution, the first all-electric Ram light duty pickup truck. Auto shows are also a chance for automakers to show off the capability of their vehicles, like Camp Jeep and the Ram Truck Test Track. Returning to the 2023 Detroit Auto Show, Camp Jeep and the Ram Truck Territory will return, with a special global debut from the Jeep® brand on Sept 13, 2023.

We got to experience Camp Jeep once before, and it sure was a testament to the 4×4 capability the brand is known for. From its maneuverability to handle the track designed 45-degree approach and departure angles to its 28-feet tall man-made mountain, the off-road capability of the Jeep SUV is second-to-none. Spanning across 32,000-square-foot for the interactive course, new additions and updates have been made to the track. Initially built to contain a 5-foot ground-clearance stair climb, a break-over obstacle, an off-camber stability side slope, a 30-degree banked articulation wedge, and maneuverability moguls, the off-camber bridge has been extended to reached 70 feet in length – 50-percent taller and 50-percent longer than its previous iteration, now standing at 12 feet tall.

This year also adds a 40-foot-long and 10-foot-tall off-road obstacle to really show off the handling of the Jeep brand. Equipped with 96 timbers that measure 8 inches by 8 inches by 8 feet, set up in a 90-degree V-shape, this phase of the test track highlights Jeep 4×4 maneuverability and suspension so consumers can also feel the comfort and ride stability off-road or just on unsavory road conditions. There will also be a kids’ course where kids can drive around in a Jeep 4xe Power Wheels. This kid zone also features a 26-foot climbing wall for those that need some adventure while the kids are entertained.

Select Jeep models will be on display for Camp Jeep, including the Wrangler Rubicon, Wrangler 4xe, Wrangler 392, Gladiator Rubicon, Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee L Overland, and Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve.

The Ram Truck Territory testing course is also pretty amazing. Featuring a 30,000-square-foot for an adventure in the front passenger seat of Ram pickup trucks, consumers get a chance to see the power and capabilities of the Ram Truck brand vehicle lineup up close. Many of the major players in the lineup will make an appearance as the test course, including the 1500 Rebel, 1500 Limited, 1500 Limited GT, 2500 Rebel, 2500 Power Wagon, 2500 Limited, and 3500 Limited. Sadly no Ram 1500 TRX since it’s being discontinued to make way for the Ram 1500 REV; see Ram Announces 2024 Ram 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition.

Making up the Ram Truck test course is a pair of convex wedges at 26 degrees to show how well the Ram can handle driving at an angle, as well as an 8-foot-tall, 30-yard-long mountain to demonstrate traction and hill descent. Being in the front-passenger seat for both, Camp Jeep and Ram Truck Territory, it’s a little frightening – it feels like the vehicle is going to topple at any moment, but never does. Being able to see the towing power of a Ram Truck is also a sight to see, watching the front-end able to erect an entire section of a wall as it pulls on the chain and hoists it up. It’s nuts.
