2024 Dodge Hornet
Dodge is leaving all-gasoline models behind as it moves towards an all-electric lineup with eMuscle. Promising high performance from battery-electric vehicles, Dodge teases what its new lineup can do with a plug-in hybrid, the Dodge Hornet. Initially only releasing an internal combustion variant of the hot new nameplate, later in 2023, the Hornet PHEV was released. Check out what a high-performance PHEV can do.

Engine Type
The 2024 Dodge Hornet is split into two categories ā all gasoline or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Itās easy to tell which is which. The GT and GT Plus are the gasoline variants, powered by a 2.0L Hurricane4 Turbo engine, able to generate 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The R/T and R/T Plus are the PHEVs, powered by a 1.3-liter I4 Turbo PHEV engine, able to generate 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Already, the PHEV is the more powerful of the breed, able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds, making it the fastest compact utility vehicle.
Driving and Handling
The gasoline version of the Dodge Hornet (GT trims) pulls out all the stops with a 9-speed automatic transmission. A 6-speed automatic transmission is found on the Hornet. We wonder if this is because an electric engine doesnāt need as many gears when hitting different speeds, or if Dodge is just pushing the envelope before all-gasoline models peter out. No fuel economy specs has been reported for the Hornet R/T or R/T Plus, but the GT and GT Plus have a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. All trims have a towing capacity of 2000 pounds when properly equipped.

No matter which trims consumers choose, they get all the goodies. Every 2024 Dodge Hornet comes with power, heated exterior mirrors; an automatic dusk sensor for automatic high beams and headlamp control; LED tail lamps; an upper and lower mesh grill; rain-sensitive windshield wipers; privacy glass; and an LED license plate. Only the Plus versions offer a power liftgate, not really a deal breaker. 17-inch wheels are the standard, but 18- and 20-inch wheels are available; 18-inch graphite aluminum wheels are standard on the R/T trims, but 18-inch wheels with a different finish are available.
Interior Features
The standard upholstery in the GT and R/T is a cloth/leatherette combination, with black Alcantara with red accents available, as well as red leather. Black leather is the standard for the GT Plus and R/T Plus. A six-way manually adjustable driver seat is the standard for the GT and R/T, but the Plus trims come with an 8-way power adjustable driver seat with 4-way power adjustable lumbar support.
Past the base, all trims come with driver-seat memory, a power sunroof, automatic-dimming rear-view mirror, and heated front seats and a heated steering wheel (available on base, GT trim).
