2022 Jeep Cherokee
The Jeep Cherokee got a tech update in 2021, and in 2022 is still bringing luxury to Jeepers. Now available with the new Uconnect 5, this compact SUV has more connected and entertainment options available. Get behind the wheel of a 2022 Jeep Cherokee and find out what all the talk is about.
Avail. Engine Type
The lineup for 2022 has yet to be announced, but assuming the 80th Anniversary Edition was just for 2021, there should be seven trims left – Latitude, Latitude Plus, Altitude, Latitude Lux, Limited, Trailhawk 4×4, and High Altitude. With little changes expected for this model year, the powertrain choices will most likely be the same. This means the standard engine is a 2.4-liter I4 Zero Evap MultiAir Engine with Electric Start/Stop (ESS) technology, able to generate 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. The mid-tier Latitude Lux changes things with the 3.2-liter V6 with ESS becoming the new standard, able to deliver 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. Only the High Altitude could be powered by a 2.0-liter I4 Turbo Engine with ESS, able to generate 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque.
The entire lineup comes paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission system and has the option of front-wheel drive (FWD) or a 4×4 drivetrain. With 4×4, this opens up 4×4 system options like Active Drive 4×4, Active Drive II 4×4, or Active Drive Lock 4×4. Depending on the trim, consumers will most likely find one of these systems on their 2022 Jeep Cherokee with 4×4. Trims powered by the 2.4-liter I4 have a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Trims powered by the 3.2-liter V6 and the High Altitude have a fuel economy of 20/29 mpg city/highway. The Trailhawk 4×4 gets 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Since the 2022 model may have little changes from 2021, we can be glad the Cherokee spreads the style and features around a bit. Standard features included heated exterior mirrors with supplemental turn signals, automatic headlamps, rain sensitive windshield wipers, deep tint sunscreen glass, a rear window wiper/washer, and side roof rails. Consumers could also get ambient LED interior lighting on all trims past the base trim, Latitude. Made for off-road adventure, the Trailhawk 4×4 comes with off-road wheel flares and Rock Rails by Mopar. Wheel sizes vary by trim, with 17-, 18-, or 19-inch wheels available.
Cloth upholstery is still the standard inside the cabin, with manual driver and passenger adjustable seats, and a 60/50 folding split rear bench seat. The Latitude Lux mid-tier raises the bar again with heated front seats, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, leather-wrapped gear shift knob, and the option of a dual panoramic sunroof. Other upgrades include power adjustable driver and passenger seats, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic a/c climate control, heated second-row seats, and ventilated front seats.
Making its way through the Stellantis lineup, the 2022 Jeep Cherokee comes with Uconnect 5. Like last year, the latest Uconnect infotainment system is standard across the lineup, but most trims come with a 7-inch display. Past the mid-tier, an 8.4-inch display with or without navigation will be made available on select trims. Standard across the lineup, the 2022 Cherokee comes with Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities, and integrated voice command with Bluetooth. A six-speaker system is standard, followed by a premium Alpine speaker system available on select trims, along with HD Radio and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee comes with many of the basic safety features, including an advanced multistage front airbag system with supplemental airbags all around the cabin, stability and traction control systems, an enhanced accident response system, a ParkView rear backup camera, and a LATCH-ready child seat anchor system. Many trims come with advanced features, such as blind spot and cross path detection, full speed forward collision warning plus, and lane departure warning plus. Consumers can also find Parksense rear park assist with stop; and Park & Unpark Assist with Stop, push button start, and remote proximity keyless entry on all trims past the Latitude base trim.
All Jeep vehicles are covered by a 3-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for five years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for five years or 100,000 miles.
