2022 Dodge Durango
Dodge is turning over a new leaf after the parent group Stellantis made it clear that the future of the auto industry is green fuel. With eMuscle on the way, Dodge will be releasing a Dodge Durango Plug-in Hybrid very soon. With that, the Dodge Durango is coming to an end, but a model year for 2022 is still heading this way. Check out what’s new for the Dodge Durango in 2022.
Avail. Engine Type
Avail. Sound System
Being discontinued, the Durango is back down to five trims – SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, and SRT 392. However, the same available engines of these respective trims are offered, such as the SXT and GT being powered by the 3.6-liter V6 engine, optimized with variable valve timing (VVT) technology to conserve fuel, capable of generating 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Citadel and R/T are powered by a 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine optimized with a multi-displacement system (MDS) and VVT, capable of generating 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Only the SRT 392 comes with a 392-cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine, able to generate 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
The entire lineup comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission, so fuel economy comes down to the engine. Consumers can expect 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway from the V6, and 4/22 mpg city/highway fuel economy on the 5.7-liter HEMI V8. The SRT 392 has a combined EPA of 16 mpg.
Making every trim a little special for 2022, the SXT comes with bright roof rails, and the GT gets a power liftgate. The GT Plus and onward comes with automatic headlamps, exterior mirrors with memory and turn signals, advanced brake assist, and a power liftgate. Roof rails and crossbars can be found on the R/T and SRT trims. The standard wheel size is 18-inches with 20-inch wheels available on select trims. GT with the Plus Group adds Bright cargo area scuff plates and rain sensitive windshield wipers. The Blacktop package adds a performance hood on the GT and performance all-season tires on GT and R/T trims.
The interior cabin also sees changes this year, with a power driver’s seat added to the SXT, and heated front seats and steering wheel, plus remote start for the GT. Cloth is still the standard seat trim until the Citadel trim, available on the GT in previous model years, and high-performance Laguna leather seats for the SRT. GT Plus adds leather seats with suede inserts and first and second-row heated seats and a memory system. R/T Plus adds Nappa leather with perforated inserts and accent stitching and a sunroof. Most trims come with a second-row 60/40 split-folding seat for cargo and seating configurations.
Standard on the 2022 Dodge Durango is Uconnect 4 on an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and starting with the R/T trim, Uconnect 5 with navigation on a 10.1-inch touchscreen is standard (available on GT with Plus package) with TomTom navigation, Sirius XM Radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Regular Google Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, integrated Bluetooth with voice command, a rear seat video system, a Blu-Ray compatible dual screen video, SiriusXM with 360L, and HD Radio can be found on the GT and onward. Uconnect LTE Wi-Fi Package with Alexia is available on select trims, and the R/T Plus comes with a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
Safety Features and Warranty
Of course, Dodge still has a focus on safety, and the following features are standard: advanced multistage front airbags; supplemental front-seat mounted and side-curtain airbags in all rows; stability and traction control systems; remote proximity keyless entry; and a LATCH ready child seat restraint system. For 2022, the SXT gets a ParkSense rear park assist system, and the Plus package adds Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking. Otherwise, according to last year’s model, blind spot and cross path detection system, full-speed forward collision warning plus, lane departure warning plus, and ParkSense rear park assist with stop can be found on various trims.
All Dodge vehicles are covered by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain, and complimentary roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles.
